H Upmann Vintage Cameroon

Before 1995, every H. Upmann that left the Tabacalera de Garcia factory in the Dominican Republic wore an African Cameroon wrapper. That leaf — rare, toothy, and unlike any other wrapper grown on earth — gave H. Upmann its most distinctive character for decades, a profile of rich nuttiness, dried fruit, and sweet cedar that defined the brand for generations of loyal smokers. Then, in 1995 at the height of the Cigar Boom, genuine African Cameroon wrappers became too scarce and costly to maintain, and the blend was re-wrapped in an Indonesian leaf. The original H. Upmann experience disappeared from shelves — until 2003.

Master Blender Jose Seijas set out to bring it back. The H. Upmann Vintage Cameroon was introduced that year as a direct tribute to the original pre-1995 H. Upmann experience — sourcing only the highest-grade African Cameroon wrapper leaves and rolling them at Tabacalera de Garcia over a Nicaraguan binder and a three-nation filler blend of Dominican, Nicaraguan, and Peruvian long-fillers. That Peruvian component is rarely discussed but genuinely significant — it adds an earthy sweetness and complexity that the Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos alone don’t produce. Medium-bodied and elegantly balanced, the Vintage Cameroon delivers toasty notes of cocoa, chestnut, coffee bean, roasted nuts, and wood with peppery accents and a sweet, velvet finish that earned a 92-point rating from Cigar Insider.

Why You’ll Love It

The Original H. Upmann Experience: Before 1995, Cameroon was the wrapper that defined the H. Upmann identity. The Vintage Cameroon is the only blend in the portfolio that revives that tradition — the closest any modern smoker can get to the H. Upmann that generations of aficionados considered one of the finest Dominican cigars ever made.

Three Nations, One Filler: The inclusion of Peruvian long-fillers alongside Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos is the Vintage Cameroon’s most distinctive construction choice — a three-nation blend that produces an earthy sweetness and complexity that sets this cigar apart from every other H. Upmann in the lineup.
